Project Overview / Contributions

I worked on this project since its inception and helped interview users and worked with the founder to come up with a product roadmap. I collaborated with the dev team to ensure that all implementations matched the exact guidelines of the design documents. I demoed the product to investors, key stakeholders, and users to refine the workflows to best match expected behavior. This improved my UX research skills and lead to a more polished product.

Problem

Dome Compass set out to solve a major problem for staffers on Capitol Hill – where should I be tonight? Many of the best events are put on short notice and sent out by largely outdated email lists. With rapid turnover, job changes, promotions, and contact updates, many of these emails never reach the intended user. When they do, typically the room ends up being filled with hungry interns rather than the people actually working on the issue.

This project began with interviewing staffers to see what problems they had with events on the Hill and then finding the ways those gaps could be closed.

Solution

Dome Compass streamlines this process with an events feed and rather than showing the same events to every staffer – Dome Compass categorizes events by subject matter and matches that to the staffers that work on those issues.

Mobile Ticketing

Dome Compass features mobile ticketing and all events hosted on the app are supported with mobile tickets. Staffers that attend the event can decide whether or not to reveal their identity and give their name to the event organizers. Staffers are given the opportunity to follow up with the event organizer if they have questions or want any additional information.

Q&A

Many staffers will refrain from questions because they don’t want the answer to be skewed based on who they work for. Dome Compass allows questions to be asked both anonymously or with attribution. This puts the privacy controls in the hands of the staffer and they can decide whether or not to reveal their identity during the Q&A phase of the event.

Matching Staffers to Events

For the product to work, Dome Compass needed to map every event to the Library of Congress issue codes. These codes are used to identify the category of projects on Capitol Hill and have been simplified and matched to events held on Dome Compass. When users sign up, they can choose which issue codes they work on, select their committees, and then be matched to events that would interest them. This keeps the stream of events relevant to users and ensures that they can attend the best events to progress their careers.

Analytics Dashboard

Dome Compass offers an analytics dashboard to event hosts to give them feedback on how their events are performing. This keeps the names of the attendees anonymous (unless they have elected to reveal their identity), but shows the host the jobs of the attendees. This allows the event host to verify if they are attracting the correct level of attendees.
